ULTRAGORGEOUS is a project I started my freshman year of college. It focuses on themes of individuality, femininity, and women empowerment. It draws from notable artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe, Andy Warhol, and Yoko Ono, as well as more contemporary names such as Barbara Kruger, the Guerilla Girls, and Shepard Fairey. Through a variety of medium including painting, photography, and performance art, artists explore the many assets of inequality faced by woman, such as unrealistic expectations of beauty, objectification, and sexualization. This work uses simple illustrations to show continuity within the human form, while still bringing forth each subject’s personality and identity through expression. This project aims to foster the importance of embracing womanhood, individuality, and female empowerment.
