C*nt Cake confronts hegemonic scripts of purity & virginity. Crafted with papier mache clay, the work portrays a white cake, muddled by blood-red substance, meant to resemble a fruit compote garnishing. Here "pure" becomes "impure," as does the virgin upon her first intimate experience. As seen in Louise Bourgeois's Le Regard, the erotic object breaks away from its traditional role of 'recipient of the gaze' to the role of 'the spectator.'
